Luxury Lexicon A definition

Vermeil

Vermeil is silver coated with gold.

The British Hallmarking Council explains how to describe silver articles with a gold coating. A description may include vermeil, but it must also identify the silver and describe the article as gold plated. Where these articles are hallmarked, they are hallmarked as silver. The fineness of the gold coating and the identity of the underlying metal are two separate details to establish when reading a product description or preparing to work on a piece.

In job listings

Vermeil is a matter of product knowledge in jewellery sales. An advisor may need to explain to a client what it is made of, how it wears and how it differs from solid gold or from gold plating over another metal. Search local jobs for “jewellery”.
