Luxury Lexicon A definition

Tech pack

A set of specifications and instructions used to communicate how a garment or product should be made.

A tech pack brings together the information needed to communicate a product design to the people making it. For a garment, this can include sketches, a bill of materials, measurement tables and construction details. Development teams use those specifications when samples are made and assessed, then update the information as decisions change. Clear documentation reduces uncertainty about the intended result. A bill of materials covers the components, while a measurement sheet covers dimensions. Each can form part of the wider pack without describing the whole product on its own.

Harrods’ Packaging Design Assistant role in Hammersmith required maintaining technical packs alongside design documentation, online files and reference samples. The stated aim was to keep information current and accessible. This gives the term a packaging application, where managing the specification documents was an explicit part of design support.
