A language used to retrieve and work with data in relational databases.
SQL works with data organised in related tables. A query describes the information wanted, allowing the database to select records, combine related data and calculate results. The language can also update stored data and define database objects. Retrieving information is therefore only one part of its scope. For analytical work, a useful distinction is between producing a result and checking that it represents the intended records and relationships. A query that runs successfully still needs to answer the business question correctly. Employers may specify particular database environments or more advanced query techniques alongside general SQL knowledge.

This described a substantial query-writing requirement, with attention to how queries perform and how readily they can be maintained. Search local jobs for “sql”.
