In commercial reporting, sales from a retailer to the final customer.
Sell-out measures sales at the final customer stage of a commercial chain. A supplier can review these sales to understand how its products are performing after they reach a retailer or distributor. The figures describe a different transaction from sell-in, which records the supplier’s sales to its immediate trade customer. The two measures may therefore cover different quantities or periods. In commercial reporting, sell-out does not mean that every unit has sold or that a product is unavailable. It identifies the stage of sale being measured.
