Planning the mix of products in a collection or range, including their roles, quantities and price points.
Range planning turns a proposed collection or product offer into a coordinated mix with quantities and price points. The plan considers the breadth of the offer and the depth assigned to its different products, alongside sales and stock expectations for a defined period. Planning by both value and quantity helps reveal whether the proposed mix fits the commercial targets. The emphasis is on how products work together within the range. Assortment planning overlaps with this work but can place greater emphasis on which parts of the offer reach particular stores or channels.
