Point of sale: where a purchase is completed, and the equipment or software used to take payment and record the sale.
A POS system combines the tools used to complete a purchase with the software that records it. When a sale is processed, the system captures transaction details and may also update stock records and customer information. These records can then feed sales reporting and other retail operations. The payment terminal is only one possible component of the system. Taking a card payment and maintaining an accurate sales record are connected tasks, but they are not identical. In a retail role, the relevant experience depends on which transactions and records the employee handles.

Canada Goose asked a seasonal retail associate in Birmingham to use its point-of-sale systems accurately and efficiently. A London sales associate posting from the same house put the task more directly: the employee would handle point-of-sale transactions under company standards. Both jobs concern using the system during sales. Search local jobs for “point of sale”.
