Luxury Lexicon A definition

Order fulfilment

The work of preparing and delivering a customer order, from picking stock to dispatch or collection.

Order fulfilment turns a customer order into goods prepared for delivery or collection. The work connects stock availability with the physical handling of the ordered items and the recording of their progress. Teams identify the required products, pick them from stock, prepare them for handover and update the order status as goods leave. An order can sometimes be fulfilled in parts when only some items are ready. Fulfilment is one part of order management, which also covers the wider tracking of order information and associated processes.

Tiffany & Co.’s London retail operations coordinator handled daily order fulfilment alongside shipping, receiving and replenishment. Getting a customer’s order ready was one part of that job. Moving stock into and around the shop helped the team complete those orders. Search local jobs for “operations”.
