Luxury Lexicon A definition

GDPR

GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation, a set of rules governing the handling of personal data.

The UK GDPR governs personal data in the UK alongside the Data Protection Act 2018. The European Union has its own GDPR. A retailer with operations in more than one market may encounter both. In a client book, keeping the customer’s address accurate and recording what communications the customer has agreed to are separate tasks. Correcting a spelling error in a record does not itself give the retailer permission to send a marketing message.

In job listings

Chanel’s London sales and service administrator listing put GDPR beside updating client details, merging accounts and maintaining marketing preferences. Here the candidate would be working with customer records directly. The advertisement uses the abbreviation without identifying a particular legal regime. Search local jobs for “technology”.
