Luxury Lexicon A definition

Deadstock

Deadstock is inventory that remains unsold or material left unused from an earlier production run.

A roll of cloth can be in new condition and still have no use in the collection for which it was bought. A later collection or another maker might use the available length, but the quantity left on the roll limits what can be cut from it. Finished products can also become deadstock when they no longer sell. The important distinction is between stock waiting for an intended use and stock for which that use has fallen away.

In job listings

This word has two senses in job copy. Stock and retail roles may mean unsold product, and designers or sustainability roles may mean unused fabric that can be put back to work, so read which is intended. Search local jobs for “fabric”.
