Clienteling is the work of building an individual client relationship through personal advice and considered follow-up.
A client advisor who remembers which cut of coat a client tried can make a useful suggestion when another size arrives. A client book or customer relationship management system gives the advisor somewhere to record preferences and the next conversation. The value lies in using that knowledge to give the client a reason to return. Sending the same launch message to the whole address book serves a different purpose.
