A bench jeweller makes, alters or repairs jewellery using workshop tools.
Work at the bench can include soldering a join, altering a ring or setting a stone. An alteration starts with the work requested and the condition of the piece. Repair skills and sales experience can appear in the same workshop or shop, but they describe different responsibilities. GIA’s Graduate Jeweler diploma teaches jewellery fabrication and repair. Its US programme title retains its own spelling when cited.
