Annual leave is time away from work taken as part of a worker’s holiday entitlement.
In the UK, almost all people classed as workers are entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday a year. An employer may count bank holidays towards that entitlement or offer them in addition to an allowance. Read how the vacancy expresses the total before comparing two offers. An allowance stated in days also needs the working pattern for context. The same number of days represents a different number of weeks for someone who works fewer days each week.

Christie’s listed 25 days of annual leave and a separate day of birthday leave for a London internship. The two allowances appear separately in the advertisement. Its wording gives the candidate more information than a single undifferentiated total would.
