Must-know Birks Facts

All applicants ought to know these basics about Birks before applying or interviewing for any role.

Founded by Henry Birks in Montreal in 1879, Birks grew from a single jewellery shop into one of Canada’s best-known fine-jewellery houses.
The business became Henry Birks & Sons in 1893 when the founder’s three sons joined the firm, establishing the family legacy behind its expansion across Canada.
Canadian nature informs Birks’ jewellery designs, with collections such as Birks Snowflake and Birks Bee Chic translating snow crystals and honeycomb geometry into distinctive motifs.
Birks combines its own jewellery collections with multi-brand luxury retail, representing watchmakers such as Rolex and Cartier at selected locations—a useful distinction for candidates interested in jewellery versus watch sales.
In 2017, Birks Group sold its US retailer Mayors to the business now known as Watches of Switzerland Group, marking a strategic shift toward its Canadian retail network and Birks-branded jewellery.
