Must-know A. Lange & Söhne Facts

All applicants ought to know these basics about A. Lange & Söhne before applying or interviewing for any role.

A. Lange & Söhne was founded in 1845 in Glashütte by Ferdinand Adolph Lange, making it one of Germany’s most historically important fine watchmakers and a rare non-Swiss benchmark in haute horlogerie alongside houses like Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin.
The brand was rebuilt after German reunification and officially relaunched in 1990 by Walter Lange with support from Richemont, giving employees a culture shaped by both deep heritage and modern reinvention.
A. Lange & Söhne is known for building movements with hand-finished German silver plates, engraved balance cocks, and a signature outsize date inspired by the Semper Opera House clock in Dresden.
Its watches are produced in relatively small volumes, so careers there tend to emphasize meticulous craftsmanship, long training curves, and exceptionally high quality standards rather than mass production speed.
The company’s most iconic models, including the Lange 1, Datograph, and Zeitwerk, are admired across the industry for combining technical rigor with distinctive design instead of following mainstream Swiss watch aesthetics.
For job seekers, the brand’s Glashütte base means exposure to Saxon watchmaking traditions and a specialist talent ecosystem that also includes names such as Glashütte Original.
